Stagefright Theatre Company presenting its second musical Feb. 16-18
Stagefright, Salve Regina’s student-run theater company, is producing its second musical, Jason Robert Brown’s “The Last Five Years.” Performances will be held at the Antone Academic Center’s Megley Theatre Friday, Feb. 16 through Sunday, Feb. 18. Show times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday.
Admission is $5 and tickets may be purchased at the door.
Directed by company president Morgan Salpietro ’19, the story follows the five-year relationship between Jaime Wellerstein, an aspiring novelist, and Cathy Hiatt, an actress. The musical tells its story with a dual timeline. Cathy’s perspective is told in reverse chronological order (beginning at the end of their marriage) and Jaime’s in chronological order (at the start of their relationship). The two only directly speak when their timelines intersect.
The show reexamines Jaime’s role in what went wrong with his relationship. Three actresses play a different vision Jaime has of Cathy over the course of five years.
“We chose this show originally because it’s simple and worked with the great talent pool Stagefright has,” Salpietro said. “However, I wanted to direct this show with placing more of the blame on Jaime, which is why we cast three Cathys rather than one.”
The production stars Robbie Welcome ’21 as Jaime, while Madisyn Mugavero ’19, Jillian Brooks-Duval ’20 and Olivia Cardarelli ’20 share the role of Cathy.
Stagefright is Salve Regina’s resident theater organization, providing workshops and performance opportunities for all students on campus.
