StageFright to host Valentine’s Day Cabaret, calling for performers
The Salve Regina community is planning to fill the seats in the Megley Blackbox Theater on Sunday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. to hear students perform monologues, dance routines, recite poetry and sing songs about love. For their upcoming Valentine’s Day Cabaret, StageFright, the student-led theater club at Salve Regina, is still looking for singers, dancers, actors and performers.
All students who wish to be a part of a positive atmosphere are welcome to perform, while all members of the Salve Regina community are invited to attend. Anyone interested in performing can fill out this form, or they can contact StageFright via email at stagefright@salve.edu or Instagram.
The deadline to submit a request to perform is Friday, Feb. 18.
Throughout the years, StageFright has consistently produced cabarets to allow the student body to flex their performance muscles without the pressure of auditions and cast lists. In the past, themes like “Halloween” have allowed students to express themselves by dressing up and performing in their costumes.
As Valentine’s Day approaches, the members of StageFright thought that “love” would be the perfect theme for their performers in 2022. For all those who have never been to a StageFright performance, there is a community to be explored.
“It’s really fun and casual. There’s no pressure.” Madison Marchetti ’24, a psychology major and the public relations coordinator for StageFright, explained. “It feels like we come together as a StageFright family. It’s very uniting.”
The theme of love is going to be expressed with performances and the decor assembled by StageFright throughout Megley Blackbox Theater. However, the performances are not confined to love songs, and friendship, unrequited love, break-ups or anything the performer feels fits the theme may be showcased.
The cabaret is open to any student interested in performing, and no experience is required. Understanding the common fear associated with showcasing talents in front of peers, Marchetti expressed that anyone with any stage experience should come if they are interested.
“The StageFright community will celebrate you and hype you up,” Marchetti said. “No matter what.”
Madisen Cardona ’23, seasoned performer and StageFright member, mentioned that cabarets are an excellent way to gain experience as a performer in a low-pressure, judgment-free environment. She recommended just showing up to get a sense for the event and to make connections.
Cardona revealed that she actually got her start with StageFright after receiving advice from a fellow performer.
“Some really great advice someone gave me was, ‘If you love to sing, take any opportunity you can to sing.’ I really took that to heart,” Cardona said. “I try to perform at as many cabarets as I can now.”
Cardona and Marchetti reiterate the supportive environment the cabarets create, describing that there are always cheers and clapping hands after every performance. The atmosphere is so encouraging that Marchetti believes this upcoming performance will be great for those in or out of a relationship at this time of year.
“StageFright is my Valentine this year. It’s going to be very fun and cute,” Marchetti said.
