Students, faculty to share experiences from civil rights bus tour
Dr. Anthony LoPresti and Dr. Timothy Neary, along with several Salve Regina students, will present “On the Road to Freedom” at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29 in the McKillop Library. The group will share their experiences from their journey into the Deep South on the University’s first civil rights bus tour.
During the bus tour, which took place during spring break 2014, students explored key sites of the era and interacted with significant participants from the civil rights movement. The tour made stops in Washington, D.C.; Greensboro, N.C.; Atlanta, Ga.; Montgomery, Ala.; and Birmingham, Ala.
LoPresti is associate professor and chairman of the Department of Religious and Theological Studies. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University, a master’s degree from Boston College and a Ph.D. in theological ethics from Boston College’s Weston Jesuit School of Theology.
Neary is an associate professor in the Department of History and the coordinator of the American studies program. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University, a master’s degree from Loyola University Chicago and a Ph.D. in U.S. history from Loyola University Chicago.
