Tennis clinic for local youth set for Sunday
In honor of Meghan Strathman ’03, a women’s tennis player who died in a car accident in April 2003 – one month before her graduation – the 12th annualĀ Megs DoublesĀ tennis clinic for area youth will be held Sunday, April 19 at the Leroy Avenue tennis courts. Registration will begin at 12:30 p.m.
The event connects the two passions that Strathman held so dearly: tennis and children. An outstanding member of the Seahawk women’s tennis team for three years, she earned recognition for her commitment to academic and athletic excellence, and her contributions to the overall development of the athletics program, with the Brother Michael Reynolds Award in 2002.
Strathman was a student teacher at the former Coggeshall Elementary School in Newport before her untimely death, and students from Coggeshall and other area schools have attended previous Megs Doubles clinics.
Participants are asked to wear athletic clothing, including sneakers. Youth racquets will be available (courtesy of Wal-Mart and head coach Cory Tusler), or participants may bring their own.
