Three Seahawks honored, Boschetto named co-coach of the year
The men’s ice hockey team landed three players on the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast all-conference team, and head coach Andy Boschetto was named the co-coach of the year.
John Scorcia ’15 was named to the second team. He went into the playoffs leading the Seahawks with 26 points behind nine goals and a team-leading 17 assists. In the league, Scoria finished the regular season ranked fourth in scoring with 20 points and tied for second in assists with 13.
Lucas Sousa ’16 was named to the honorable mention team and earned a spot on the all-rookie team. As one of the top defenders in the league, he ranks sixth in the league in defensemen scoring with 14 points and tied for 13th in freshman scoring. Sousa finished the regular season tied for fifth in defensemen scoring and eighth in freshman scoring in conference action with nine points.
Marc Biggs ’16 joins Sousa as an all-rookie selection. He paced the Seahawks with 14 goals going into the playoffs and is currently ranked 11th in the league in scoring with 24 points. Biggs led the team and is fourth in the league with six power play goals.
Third-year coach Boschetto led the team to an overall record of 8-13-3, a 5-7-2 ECAC Northeast slate and the No. 5 seed in the ECAC Northeast playoffs. The eight regular season wins are the most since the 2007-2008 season, and Boschetto led the team to the playoffs for the first time since 2009-2010.
Salve Regina opened the playoffs with an 8-4 win over No. 4 Western New England University and will travel to No. 2 Nichols College on Wednesday, Feb. 27.
