Two football players earn conference honors
Two members of the football team recently earned weekly honors from the New England Football Conference. Quarterback Brandan Basil ’17 was named offensive player of the week and linebacker Danny Ives ’16 was named defensive player of the week.
Basil, a transfer from Southern Connecticut State University, passed for 322 yards and four touchdowns in a come-from-behind 41-28 victory over Worcester State University last Saturday. He finished 18-of-32 with a long play of 63 yards in his first game in a Salve Regina uniform.
Ives led all players in the game with 15 tackles as Salve Regina rallied from deficits three different times its contest with Worcester State. He had 12 solo stops among his tally, which also included an assisted tackle for loss.
Salve Regina has two weeks to prepare for its next opponent, as the Seahawks will host Castleton State University on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Gaudet Field.
