Two Seahawks earn conference honors
Congratulations to the following student athletes, who recently received honors from the New England Football Conference and the Commonwealth Coast Conference:
Football: Ethan Gambale ’17
Gambale was named defensive player of the week after totaling 11 tackles (nine solo, two for losses), a sack, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup in the Seahawks’ 52-14 victory over Nichols College last Saturday.
Gambale leads the Seahawks with 7.5 tackles for a loss this season as part of a defense that is only allowing 12 points per game and 41 yards rushing per contest. Salve Regina (5-0, 3-0 NEFC) will host Massachusetts Institute of Technology at noon Saturday, Oct. 22 as part of Fall Festival Weekend.
Women’s cross country: Amy Irving ’17
Irving was named runner of the week after finishing inside the top 25 in a field of 250 at the Connecticut College Invitational. She completed the 6K course in 22:35.1, setting the pace as the Seahawks finished eighth overall. The meet included three of the top 10 teams in New England and two ranked teams from outside of the region.
“Amy continues to demonstrate that she can race with some of the best runners in the region,” said head coach Rob McGuinness. “The tactics we saw today were typical Amy, and this race offered proof that her fitness is where it needs to be. I’m eager to see what she will do in the championship meets.”
The Seahawks return to action Oct. 29 at the Commonwealth Coast Conference championship.
