Two soccer players earn conference honors
Two soccer players – Evan MacDonald ’20 and Jamie Robert ’21 – recently received weekly honors from the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
Evan MacDonald
MacDonald was named offensive player of the week for men’s soccer after scoring a goal in each of Salve Regina’s non-conference wins last week. He contributed a goal to the Seahawks’ 7-2 win over Bridgewater State University and scored the only goal in Salve Regina’s 1-0 victory over Newbury College. MacDonald leads the conference in both assists and points.
“Evan has been a stalwart for us on the field this season,” said head coach Craig O’Rourke II. “His commitment this past offseason was fantastic and he is starting to reap the rewards of all of his hard work.”
Salve Regina (4-0) travels to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on Wednesday, Sept. 12. The Seahawks open their conference slate on Saturday, Sept. 15, when they welcome Curry College to Reynolds Field.
Jamie Robert
Robert was named rookie of the week for women’s soccer after scoring the first two goals of her collegiate career with a multi-goal game against Rhode Island College. Her first goal, which turned out to be the game-winner, was a long right-footed shot from 18 yards out, which beat the keeper. The second goal came on a header late in the contest to seal the 3-1 victory.
“Jamie’s athleticism, attitude and nose for the goal will make a huge difference offensively for us this season,” said head coach Jane Walsh. “It’s great to see a first-year player step up and take control during critical moments. She displayed veteran composure with both goals. I’m interested to see how more experience affects her game.”
The Seahawks (2-1) play at Coast Guard Academy on Wednesday, Sept. 12 before opening their conference schedule at home against Curry College on Saturday, Sept. 15.
