Two student-athletes earn conference honors
Congratulations to softball player Kelsey Boarman ’17 and baseball player Jimmy Fitzgerald ’18, who recently received honors from the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
Boarman was named pitcher of the week after going 4-0 last week for Salve Regina. She started the week with a shutout against University of Massachusetts Boston, surrendering only four hits. Boarman followed that performance with a trio of victories against conference teams. During the second game against Endicott College, she made a relief appearance in the third inning with the Seahawks trailing by two runs. Boarman blanked the Gulls for the rest of the game, enabling Salve Regina to come from behind for the win.
Salve Regina (11-8, 6-0 CCC) has won 12 of its last 14 at home and returns to Toppa Field Tuesday, April 11 when it hosts Wentworth Institute of Technology in a conference doubleheader.
Fitzgerald was named pitcher of the week after throwing 6.2 innings of no-hit ball against conference opponent Endicott College. He was one strike away from completing the no-hitter before the Gulls picked up a base hit. Fitzgerald also struck out 10 in the outing.
Defending conference champion Salve Regina (17-4, 8-0 CCC) has won four straight and retained its No. 2 regional ranking in the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Coaches Association’s weekly poll. The Seahawks return to home action on Reynolds Field this week with games Tuesday and Wednesday.
