Two student-athletes earn conference honors
Two student-athletes – Drew Balestrieri ’20 and Abby McMackin ’19 – recently received weekly honors from the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
Balestrieri was named defensive player of the week for football after picking off a pass and taking it 32 yards for a touchdown in the first possession of Salve Regina’s 30-21 conference win over Curry College Oct. 20. He had another interception later in the quarter and recorded seven tackles in the contest, including six solo stops.
The Seahawks (4-3, 2-1 CCC) continue their conference road schedule with a game at first-year member University of New England at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27.
McMackin was named offensive player of the week for women’s soccer after scoring three games in two games last week. Her first goal came against Wentworth Institute of Technology as she put home the game-winner in the 78th minute of a 2-1 game. McMackin added a pair of goals in a 4-3 loss to Gordon College.
The Seahawks (6-7-0, 3-4-0 CCC) wrap up their regular season with a conference game versus Nichols College at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23.
