Dianna Tauro ’15 has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference libero of the year for women’s volleyball. Joining her on the all-conference squad are Katelyn Beauregard ’15 (honorable mention), Jennifer Duggan ’15 (first team), Emily Lipinski ’16 (honorable mention) and Taylor Violet ’15 (second team).

Tauro leads the Seahawks with 404 digs and 4.39 digs per set, both ranking fifth in the conference. She also surpassed the 1,000 career digs milestone this season, currently ranking fourth in program history with 1,253 career digs.

Beauregard totaled 29 blocks, 13 solo and a .277 hitting percentage this season, good enough for fourth in the conference.

Duggan leads the Seahawks with 309 kills and 3.47 kills per set. She also is second on the Seahawks with 298 digs. This season, Duggan surpassed both the 1,000 career digs and kills milestones, making her the only player in Salve Regina women’s volleyball history to accomplish both feats.

Lipinski recorded 162 kills and 30 blocks this season, 11 of which were solo blocks.

Violet leads the Seahawks with 811 assists and 9.42 assists per set. After becoming the program’s all-time assists leader in her sophomore year, she surpassed the 3,000 assist milestone this season and currently has 3,298 assists. Violet’s .64 service aces per set this season led the conference.

Julia Grover ’16 (second team), Murphy McCann ’15 (honorable mention) and Abigail Tepper ’16 (first team) have been named to the Commonwealth Coast Conference all-conference team for field hockey.

Tepper leads the Seahawks in scoring with 46 points (19 goals, eight assists) and ranks second in the league in goals and points. She also has six game-winning goals in 2014, helping Salve Regina reach the 13-win total for only the second time in program history.

Grover ranks first among Salve Regina midfielders with 17 points (six goals, five assists). She has been a consistent producer over the last three years with 18 goals and 17 assists.

Although McCann has been the starting goalkeeper for the last four seasons, she has produced her best goals against average (1.76) this season. Her four shutouts and 91 saves in 19 games have contributed to the first winning season for field hockey since 2006.

Salve Regina has earned its first postseason spot in the conference playoffs since 2009. As the fourth seed, the Seahawks will travel to the University of New England to face the top-seeded Nor’easters at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5.

Jake Weinshank ’15, a sociology and anthropology major, has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference senior scholar-athlete of the year for men’s soccer.

A four-year recipient of the McAuley Scholarship, the University’s highest possible award for academic merit, Weinshank is a member of the Pell Honors Program and has been named to the dean’s list each semester. He is also a 2013 inductee into the Chi Alpha Sigma national college athlete honor society, serves as a team mentor and tutor and has participated annually in his team’s community service project.

Weinshank enjoyed his finest moment on the field in the 2012 conference championship. The then-sophomore scored two first-half goals as the Seahawks defeated Nichols College 2-0 and earned their second-ever trip to the NCAA Division III championships.

“Jake’s consistent degree of excellence in the classroom has been an inspiration to his teammates,” said head coach Craig O’Rourke II. “The fact that he earns a perfect 4.0 each and every semester in the Pell Honors Program is nothing short of exceptional, and he has been the cornerstone for us in winning the National Soccer Coaches Association of America team academic award in three of the last four seasons.”

In addition to Weinshank’s honor, three Seahawks were named to the all-conference team: Steven Aston ’17 (second team), Issa Demirgioglu ’15 (second team) and Alex Wasilewski ’15 (first team).

Manning one of two center back positions, Aston helped the Seahawks post one shutout in league play and allow just 11 goals in nine conference games. Earning his second straight selection as a midfielder, Demirgioglu scored three goals in 2014, including the Oct. 4 game-winner against Curry College. Wasilewski, who also earned his second straight selection, led the Seahawks in goals (6), assists (6) and scoring (18 points).

Lauren Bulk ’15 has been named to the Commonwealth Coast Conference all-conference team for women’s soccer, while the entire Seahawk squad was recognized with the league’s Team Sportsmanship Award.

For the second straight year, Bulk tied for the team high in points (12 in 14 games). She had five goals and two assists on the season to raise her career totals to 17 goals and five assists (39 points) in 65 games.

Bulk started one game as a goalkeeper in 2014, her first ever as a collegiate player. She led the team in scoring over the past two seasons with a dozen goals, including three game-winning goals, and four assists.

Salve Regina (3-13-0; 1-8-0 CCC) won its last game on Sept. 27, a 2-1 victory against Wentworth Institute of Technology. The Seahawks, who missed the postseason for the second straight year, suffered three overtime defeats during a five-game homestand in September.
