University partners with United Healthcare for walking challenge
Salve Regina has partnered with United Healthcare to offer the Walk for Health Challenge, a walking incentive program available to faculty and staff. By encouraging participants to increase their level of physical activity on most days of the week, the challenge aims to improve the health and well being of participants.
The program will run for two months and is divided into two four-week sessions. The per-participant minimum walking goals are:
- Session 1 (Sept. 12 to Oct. 10): 5,500 steps per day (154,000 total steps for the four-week period)
- Session 2 (Oct. 11 to Nov. 6): 7,000 steps per day (196,000 total steps for the four-week period)
A Walk for Health Challenge kickoff will be held at noon Thursday, Sept. 12 in the Ochre Court breakfast room. After a brief presentation, participants will have an opportunity to form/join and name their respective team, designate a team captain and register for the challenge. Each team may have up to 10 members.
Participants will receive pedometers and log sheets to record their steps for each of the two four-week sessions. At the conclusion of each session, completed logs will be collected. United Healthcare will tally and share the results with participants.
Incentives will be provided to assist with motivation. Prizes will be awarded to the top performers at the end of each session and to the overall top performing team at the conclusion of the challenge.
