Update from Staff Advisory Council for summer, upcoming academic year
In the spirit of summer and in an effort to increase engagement and build community, the Staff Advisory Council (SAC) is excited to highlight some upcoming summer events, cross-campus partnerships and opportunities to help out at beginning of the 2023-24 academic year. There are also some fall dates below to keep in mind as employees plan for their fall semester.
Employee Appreciation Social
An Employee Appreciation Social will be held on 12:30-2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, Gerety Hall lawn. There will be ice cream from Newport Creamery, Del’s Lemonade, popcorn, lawn games and music. This is co-sponsored by the Office of Human Resources and Staff Advisory Council, and there is no need to register in advance.
Staff Workshops
Staff Workshops will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 16 and Thursday, Aug. 17, with SAC’s Onboarding, Training and Professional Development Committee for workshops hosted by Salve Regina staff. Participants can learn more about LinkedIn Learning, 25Live and best practices for events, and get questions answered regarding timecards, check requests, building repairs and more.
Specific time and more information will be available closer to the date of these workshops, and there is no need to register in advance.
Play Catch and Have Treats with Ruggles
A Play Catch and Have Treats with Ruggles event will be held from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17, in Ruggles’ yard behind 162 Webster St. Join Michelle Caron, officer in Safety & Security, and Salve’s favorite dog for lemonade, cookies and play time with Ruggles. There is no need to register in advance.
McAuley Movers
The Office of Residence Life is seeking volunteer McAuley Movers to engage with families and help move in our newest Seahawks on Friday, Sept. 1. Shifts are 7:30-11 a.m. or 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sign up to participate here.
Resident Advisor Training
Fall Resident Advisor training will be held Aug. 21 to Sept. 1 with a “Let’s Be Real” series, which offers honest, engaging and productive conversations about the outcomes of being a student leader.
The Office of Residence Life is looking for staff to host a 30-minute presentation about student leadership opportunities offered through their area. Fall Staff Assembly
The next SAC assembly will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, in the Bazarsky Lecture Hall in O’Hare Academic Building. There will be SAC updates, announcements and guest speakers, and a full agenda will be shared out this fall. If someone has something that needs to be shared at the assembly, email staffadvisory@salve.edu.
2nd Annual Friendsgiving
The annual Friendsgiving to be held at Noon on Thursday, Nov. 9, in Ochre Court. This will be a wholesome event with light refreshments, ways to share gratitude, Thanksgiving service and, of course, the Great Staff Bake-Off. If anyone is interested in getting involved in planning Friendsgiving or have a baked good to enter into the bake-off, email staffadvisory@salve.edu.
