“Verve” to showcase a range of jazz, contemporary pieces
Extensions Dance Company, directed by associate professor Lindsay Guarino, will present “Verve” at the Casino Theatre Thursday, Feb. 28 through Saturday, March 2. The program will showcase a range of spirited jazz and contemporary pieces that swing with rhythm, power and soul.
Guarino will present “Sidewinder” to the upbeat 1964 Lee Morgan jazz standard of the same name. Buffalo, New York-based Carlos Jones will debut a jazz piece titled “Amalgamate.” The dancers travel through different cultures and rhythms to explore the shared groove that exists across continents. Former Broadway dancer and Rockette Kimberly Calore-Sedlak will present “What is Jazz,” a theatrical jazz piece in the style of Jack Cole.
“Verve” will also feature works by Boston-based choreographers Cayley Christoforou ’15 and Kat Pantos of Pantos Project. Faculty member Melody Gamba will present a new piece choreographed on Extensions II, the junior company which she co-directs.
Student choreographers include Maddie Stewart ’19 and Marissa Masson ’19, whose piece “Synergy” has been invited to a number of dance festivals, including the Boston Contemporary Dance Festival and WaxWorks in Brooklyn, New York.
Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, with an additional matinee at 2 p.m. Saturday.
