Watch College Democrats and College Republicans discuss the issues in virtual forum
On Friday, Oct. 23, at 11:45 p.m., join Salve Regina’s College Democrats and College Republications for a robust discussion of the issues that the U.S. is currently facing in this upcoming election. The forum will be moderated by Dr. Jim Ludes, executive director of the Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy.
The College Democrats club has been encouraging the College Republicans club to reestablish themselves so they could collaborate on events such as this forum. The College Republicans was just approved as a club in the last few weeks, and with the big election coming up, the Pell Center thought it would be a good opportunity to and see if both clubs would be interested in participating in a forum on the issues. They were!
This forum will be held as a panel-style event with four members from each club serving as panelists. It will be similar to a debate, but less formal so audience members can ask questions.
Topics will be selected at random and may include:
- Coronavirus
- Police reform
- Climate change
- Social security
- Health care
- Trade
- Foreign policy
- Higher education costs
Here are the representatives from each club:
College Democrats:
- Leila Balady ‘22
- Alex Kenney ‘22
- Kyra Dezjot ‘21
- Joseph Morrissey ‘23
College Republicans:
- Abigail Twombly ‘23
- Eric Peck ‘23
- Alexander Azary ‘21
- Eilis O’Neil ‘23
For the format, each team will have 90 seconds for opening statements, up to three minutes to respond to each question, and up to one minute of rebuttal. Each team will receive one question on each topic that will be selected at random, which will bring us to about a half hour if they cover four topics. The balance of time may be used for questions from the audience or more topics.
To register and receive the WebEx link, call (401) 341-2927 or email pellcenter@salve.edu. Anyone interested in participating as an audience member should RSVP.
