Women’s volleyball ranked 12th in New England
The Salve Regina women’s volleyball team has gotten off to a 7-0 start this season and the New England Volleyball Association has taken notice. The Seahawks are ranked in the first poll of the year for the first time in program history, landing at No. 12.
The poll reflects records for the week ending Sept. 8, when the Seahawks were 6-0 and 5-0 against fellow New England schools. Since the poll date, Salve Regina picked up a three-set win over Lasell College to improve to a perfect 7-0 on the year. The Seahawks have not lost a set since a 3-1 opening weekend win over Emerson College.
Directing the Seahawks potent attack this season is Taylor Violet ’15, who has 169 assists on the season, while Clare Adams ’14 has 62 kills to her credit. Jennifer Duggan ’15 and Dianna Tauro ’15 join Adams with 50 or more digs on the year to anchor the defense.
The Commonwealth Coast Conference was well represented in the poll, as Roger Williams University (No. 1) and Western New England University (No. 6) each earned a spot as well.
