Eruzione a semifinalist for Joe Concannon award

Gridiron Club of Greater Boston president Cheryl Duddy Schoenfeld announced on Feb. 7 that 30 players are semifinalists for the 20th Joe Concannon Award, presented annually to the best American-born NCAA Division II/III college hockey player in New England. Among these is Salve Regina’s men’s ice hockey forward Danny Eruzione ’21. Eruzione, a junior captain, currently leads the Seahawks in scoring (4 goals, 15 assists, 15 points).

The Joe Concannon Award was established in 2001 shortly after the passing of the longtime writer for The Boston Globe, who had a great passion for the game of college hockey while always advocating strongly for amateur athletics.

Twenty-one teams are represented in this year’s list of candidates — including eight players from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), six from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), six from the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC), two from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC), and six from the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10). Two nominees come from independent Anna Maria College; they are the first nominations for the school in just its second season as an NCAA D-III program.

The list of nominees includes 16 skilled forwards, eight versatile defensemen and six superb goaltenders. The full release of nominees from the Gridiron Club can be found here.
