Smith named player of the year for baseball

Seahawk outfielder Zack Smith ’19 has been named player of the year and first-team all-conference for baseball by the Commonwealth Coast Conference.

Smith was a top hitter in the league this year, leading the conference in hits (56), doubles (13), home runs (8), total bases (97), batting average (.438) and slugging percentage (.758). His batting average (20th) and slugging (23rd) were also in the top 25 in all of Division III. Smith was second in the conference in RBI (38) and on-base percentage (.473), while scoring the league’s third-most runs (35).

“Zack has had one of the best offensive seasons I have ever seen, and I would say it’s probably top five in the history of the program,” said head coach Eric Cirella. “He really helped carry us through the middle of the year when we were banged up. I hope he gets a chance to keep competing because he’s as good as they come at this level.”
