October will bring Salve Regina’s annual Fall Festival Weekend 2021 to campus, which is run by Office of Alumni, Parent and Family Programs. After a year of restricting campus to students and faculty due to the coronavirus pandemic, it is finally time to reopen campus to welcome family and alumni home. Events will be held from Friday, Oct. 29 through Sunday, Oct. 31.
Dr. Gerry Willis, the director of the Office of Alumni, Parent and Family Programs notes his excitement for the return of the Fall Festival.
“Fall Festival Weekend has been a Salve tradition for many years now – going back decades – with the purpose always the same: to welcome parents to campus early in the fall semester to visit their students settling in after the start of their semester, and to enjoy a fun weekend of indoor and outdoor activities,” Willis described. “Students enjoy showing parents their room, their residence hall, friends they’ve made, and places around campus and in the community that they enjoy. For many, it’s the first time they’ve seen their parents since the semester began.”
Last year’s Fall Festival was held online, but this year’s in-person events will be the perfect opportunity for parents and alumni to be back in Newport, Rhode Island, as a part of the Salve Regina community once again.
Check out the Fall Festival Weekend 2021’s website for detailed information about the events planned for the weekend. Please note that in order to keep visitors and students safe, online registration to most of the events was required due to safety precautions and the limitations of catering services and staff. The registration deadline for most of the events was Friday, Oct. 22.
However, the Seahawk Village on Saturday, Oct. 30, is available to visitors and students without prior registration, and unregistered students are being asked to attend after 12:30 p.m. Any athletic games taking place over the weekend also do not require registration, and these events can be found on Salve Regina’s athletic site.
In addition, Salve Regina’s beloved community resource dog Ruggles will be making an appearance at Saturday’s events wearing his Halloween costume.
