Baseball players earn three conference awards
Salve Regina’s baseball team returned from Florida sporting a 7-3 overall record, including 2-0 against regional competition, while the Seahawks also garnered accolades from the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
Daniel Donohue ’14 was named the player of the week. The shortstop batted .586 (17-for-29) with 15 RBI, 11 runs scored, five doubles and seven stolen bases in eight attempts. He batted safely in all seven games, while driving in or scoring at least one run in each of Salve Regina’s seven games. He collected five three-hit games on the week, including each of the Seahawks’ final three contests.
Kevin Lambert ’15 was named the pitcher of the week. He was a force out of the bullpen, tossing six hitless innings and posting two wins in the process. Lambert worked 3-1/3 hitless innings in the Seahawks’ 13-4 victory over Lakeland College, striking out four and walking one. In Salve Regina’s 8-4 win over Mitchell College, he tossed 2-2/3 no-hit innings, while fanning two and walking a pair. In two appearances, Lambert went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA, six strikeouts and three walks, without allowing a hit in six innings of work.
Ryan Kelly ’16 was named the rookie of the week. The centerfielder batted .348 (8-for-23) with 12 runs scored, three RBI, three doubles, one triple and a perfect 4-for-4 showing in stolen base attempts. Kelly hit safely in five games and scored at least one run in six contests. His top performance came in a 7-5 victory over Skidmore College, as Kelly went 4-for-4 with two RBI, three runs and two steals.
