Joshua Burnett ’14 was named the New England Football Conference defensive player of the week after helping the Seahawks to a 36-7 win over Bridgewater State University Sept. 7.

Burnett led all players with 12 tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss. Halfway through the second quarter, he had his first interception of the year to set up Salve Regina’s third touchdown drive of the game. Two drives prior, Burnett had blocked his first punt of the season after Bridgewater State went 4-and-out.

Dan Buonocore ’15 joined Burnett on the weekly honor roll after accounting for four of the Seahawks five touchdowns, three rushing and one passing. The running back had a career high 21 carries and career high touchdowns.

Burnett and the Seahawks get back in action Saturday, Sept. 14 as they travel to Montclair State University. Kick off is set for noon.
