Community service opportunities: December

Want to log some service hours before winter break? The Office of Community Service has several opportunities available during the month of December.

Saturday, Dec. 2: Emmanuel Church

Volunteers are needed from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to help with holiday caroling, crafts and dancing. This site is located on the trolley line.

Monday, Dec. 4 through Friday, Dec. 8: The Breakers

Volunteers are needed to operate the model train at the Breakers. Duties include operating the train, ensuring successful setup and cleanup, minor maintenance and passing out treats to young visitors. Volunteers may sign up for four-hour shifts: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1-5 p.m. This site is located on the trolley line.

Monday, Dec. 4 through Friday, Dec. 8: Salvation Army Bell Ringing

Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. to ring the Salvation Army bells at the Stop & Shop on Bellevue Avenue. Volunteers may sign up for two-hour shifts: 10 a.m. to noon, noon to 2 p.m., 2-4 p.m., 4-6 p.m. or 6-8 p.m. Monday from 4-6 p.m. is full. This site is located on the trolley line.

Sunday, Dec. 10: Emmanuel Church

Volunteers are needed from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to help “green” the Emmanuel Church for the holiday season. This site is located on the trolley line.

Monday, Dec. 11 through Friday, Dec. 15: The Breakers

Volunteers are needed to operate the model train at the Breakers. Monday, Dec. 18: MLK Center, Santa’s Workshop

Volunteers are needed to help in Santa’s workshop. They can sign up in three shifts, 10:45 a.m. to 1: 30 p.m., 1:15-4 p.m. and 4-6:45 p.m.

Tuesday, Dec. 19: MLK Center, Santa’s Workshop

Volunteers are needed to help in Santa’s workshop. They can sign up in three shifts, 8:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., 11:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 1:45-4:45 p.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 20: MLK Center, Food Distribution

Volunteers are needed to help food bag distribution. They can sign up in three shifts, 9:45 a.m. to noon, noon to 2 p.m. and 2-4 p.m.
