Community service opportunities: December

With the holidays on the horizon, the Center for Community Engagement and Service has a wide variety of opportunities available during the month of December.

Monday, Dec. 2: Holiday Decorating

Volunteers are needed from 3-5 p.m. at Donovan Manor on Chapel Street to assist in decorating for the holiday season.

Saturday, Dec. 7: Bell Ringing

Volunteers are needed from noon-8 p.m. to ring the Salvation Army bells at the Stop & Shop on Bellevue Avenue. Volunteers may sign up for two-hour shifts. This site is located on the trolley line.

Saturday, Dec. 7 and Sunday, Dec. 8: Gift Wrapping

Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. to noon and 4-6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Patagonia store on Thames Street to help the Norman Bird Sanctuary with holiday gift wrapping.

Tuesday, Dec. 10 and Wednesday, Dec. 11: General Maintenance

Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday and 1-4 p.m. Wednesday at Fort Adams to help with general cleanup, landscaping and brush work. Transportation is provided.

Thursday, Dec. 12: Bell Ringing

Volunteers are needed from 2-4 p.m. to ring the Salvation Army bells at the Stop & Shop on Bellevue Avenue. This site is located on the trolley line.

Thursday, Dec. 12 and Friday, Dec. 13: Holiday Organization

Volunteers are needed from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Child & Family on John Clarke Road in Middletown to greet donors and unload toys and presents from cars. Volunteers may sign up for three- or four-hour shifts. Transportation is not provided.

Saturday, Dec. 14: Bell Ringing

Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. to ring the Salvation Army bells at the Stop & Shop on Bellevue Avenue. Volunteers may sign up for two-hour shifts. This site is located on the trolley line.

Thursday, Dec. 19: Wrapping Party

Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to wrap gifts at the Salvation Army on Memorial Boulevard. This site is located on the trolley line.
