Community service opportunities: November

Ready to log some service hours? The Center for Community Engagement and Service has a wide variety of opportunities available during the month of November.

To register for one of the service opportunities listed below, or to view all service opportunities, visit the center’s website. For more information on service opportunities in general, contact the center at (401) 341-2440 or community.services@salve.edu.

Saturday, Nov. 2: Race for Open Space

Volunteers are needed from 9-11:30 a.m. to help with the Aquidneck Land Trust’s Race for Open Space. Duties include race registration, helping at street crossings along the race course and spotting/directing runners along the race course. Van transportation is provided.

Saturday, Nov. 2: Yardwork and Cleanup

Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to noon at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church on Broadway to help clean up and do yard work. This site is located on the trolley line.

Monday, Nov. 4 through Wednesday, Nov. 6: Holiday Assistance Program

Volunteers are needed from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday, 2-6 p.m. Tuesday and 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Salvation Army on Memorial Boulevard to help with the holiday assistance program. Volunteers may register for two-hour shifts. This site is on the trolley line.

Wednesday, Nov. 6: Moms of Preschoolers

Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to noon at Evangelical Friends Church on Bliss Mine Road in Middletown to help with the Moms of Preschoolers program. Transportation is not provided.

Monday, Nov. 11: RI Veterans Home Tie Blankets

Volunteers are needed from 3-6 p.m. in Gerety Hall, Room 201 to make tie blankets for the Rhode Island Veterans Home. Volunteers can drop in and stay as long as they want.

Saturday, Nov. 16: Gifts to Give

Volunteers are needed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to sort donation items at Gifts to Give. Van transportation is provided.

Sunday, Nov. 17: McKinney Shelter Meals

Volunteers are needed from 2-6:30 p.m. in the Mercy Center kitchen to prepare, cook, serve and clean up a meal for the McKinney Shelter. Van transportation to the McKinney Shelter is provided.

Sunday, Nov. 17: Music Assistance

Volunteers are needed from 5-5:45 p.m. to play musical instruments for the McKinney Shelter. Volunteers must provide their own instruments. Van transportation is provided.

Wednesday, Nov. 20: Moms of Preschoolers

Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to noon at Evangelical Friends Church on Bliss Mine Road in Middletown to help with the Moms of Preschoolers program. Transportation is not provided.

Wednesday, Nov. 20: Thanksgiving Meal

Volunteers are needed from 4-6 p.m. at Donovan Manor on Chapel Street to serve a Thanksgiving meal to the residents. This site is located on the trolley line.

Thursday, Nov. 21: Thanksgiving Baskets

Volunteers are needed between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. to help organize Thanksgiving baskets for Child & Family and the Salvation Army. Transportation is not provided.

Thursday, Nov. 21: Birthday Packaging

Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. to noon to help the Confetti Foundation organize supplies for birthday parties to hospitalized children. Transportation is not provided.

Monday, Nov. 25: Holiday Collection and Sorting

Volunteers are needed from 2-4 p.m. at the Salvation Army on Memorial Boulevard to help with holiday collection and sorting. This site is located on the trolley line.

Tuesday, Nov. 26: Bell Ringing

Volunteers are needed from 5-8 p.m. at the Stop & Shop on Bellevue Avenue to ring the Salvation Army bells. This site is located on the trolley line.

      Meet with a member of Admissions Office to hear about Salve Regina's mission, campus life and academics directly from an admissions counselor in a group setting. It's a great introduction to Salve Regina and all the opportunities that exist for you here. 

      A virtual information session is designed for those who are in the college search and application process. If you would like to learn more about Salve Regina University and have your questions answered in a live chat, this is the best place to start. Our sessions last approximately one hour.

      You will also be able to view our virtual tour as part of your registration for this presentation.

    • Reunion Weekend
      Friday, June 3 to Sunday, June 5

      Reunion Weekend will be packed with exciting events both on and off campus. It's been too long since we've been able to welcome you to campus for a reunion celebration, so these events are sure to be worth the trip back to Newport. Return to campus and reconnect with your classmates - all alumni are welcome to attend.
