Conroy named defensive player of the week

Linebacker Matt Conroy ’15 has been named the New England Football Conference defensive player of the week.

Conroy had a pair of fourth-quarter interceptions on consecutive possessions in Salve Regina’s 20-10 victory over the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Nov. 8. He returned the first interception from his end zone 65 yards and the Seahawks scored an insurance touchdown on the very next play. On Coast Guard’s next possession, Conroy grabbed another errant pass and returned it 34 yards, enabling the Salve Regina offense to run three minutes off the clock. He added three tackles, including one for a loss of a yard.

The Seahawks (5-4) conclude their regular season with a home game against Endicott College at noon Saturday, Nov. 15 at Gaudet Field. Conroy is among 26 seniors playing in their final regular season game as Salve Regina also pays a special tribute to the United States military.
