Department of Music, Theatre and Dance plans spring concerts

The Department of Music, Theatre and Dance has several spring concerts on tap, including performances from the University’s choral groups along with the Newport Community Symphonic Band and the Newport County Orchestra.

Admission is $8 for general and $5 for students and senior citizens. Tickets will be available at the door for all concerts. For more information, call (401) 341-2295.

Newport Community Symphonic Band

The spring band concert, featuring performances from the Newport Community Symphonic Band and the flute and jazz ensembles, will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, April 25 in the Casino Theatre. Directed by Peter Davis, the concert will feature works by Vincent Persichetti, Samuel Barber, Johann Strauss Jr. and John Mackey, with music by Duke Ellington and selections from “Aladdin.“

Choral groups

The spring choral concert, featuring performances from the University Chorus, Madrigals, men’s and women’s ensembles and the a cappella groups Cliffnotes and Pitches with Attitude, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 27 in Ochre Court. Directed by Donald St. Jean, the concert will feature selections from Ludwig van Beethoven, Ludwig Berger, Leonard Bernstein, Javier Busto, Eric Whitacre, Aaron Copland, George Gershwin, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Queen.

Newport County Orchestra

The Newport County Orchestra, composed of Salve Regina students, members of the local community and advanced high school students, will present its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 29 in the Casino Theatre. Directed by Vincent Mattera, the concert will feature Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Sinfonia Concertante,” Georges Bizet’s “Symphony in C Major,” Vaughan Williams’ “The Lark,” Franz von Suppe’s “Poet and Peasant Overture” and the orchestra’s own Gael Berberick and Barney Walker’s “Seascapes.”
