Department of Music, Theatre and Dance plans spring concerts
The Department of Music, Theatre and Dance has several spring concerts on tap, including performances from the University’s choral groups along with the Newport Community Symphonic Band and the Newport County Orchestra.
Admission to all concerts is $8 for general and $5 for students and senior citizens. Tickets will be available at the door. For more information, call (401) 341-2295.
Choral groups
The spring choral concert, “In the Mood,” will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 23 in Ochre Court. Directed by Dr. Donald St. Jean, the performance will feature selections by Glenn Miller, Robert Schumann, Giuseppe Verdi, Z. Randall Stroope, Gabriel Faure, Stephen Sondheim and others. Performers will include the University Chorus, Madrigals Chorus and the a cappella groups Cliffnotes and Pitches with Attitude.
Newport Community Symphonic Band
The spring band concert will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 24 in the Casino Theatre. Directed by Peter Davis, the program will feature works by Igor Stravinsky, John Williams, David Biedenbender, Robert Jager, Tito Puente and Mongo Santamaria. The Salve Regina flute and jazz ensembles will also perform.
Newport County Orchestra
The Newport County Orchestra, composed of Salve Regina students, members of the local community and advanced high school students, will present its spring concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 27 in the Casino Theatre. Directed by Vincent Mattera, the program will include works from Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Robert Krommer and Franz Schumann.
