Desrosiers to discuss Newport notable John Banister

Dr. Marian Mathison Desrosiers, a two-time Fulbright Scholar and adjunct professor of history and humanities at Salve Regina, will discuss how 18th-century Newport merchant John Banister changed colonial lives at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 18 at the Redwood Library.

An independent scholar, Desrosiers is a former executive board member of the National Council for Social Studies. She has researched and published on women in positions of leadership during wartime and in the judiciary, 19th century Irish immigration and colonial Newport.

Desrosiers’ talk is free for Redwood Library members and $10 for non-members, and will be preceded by a wine and cheese reception at 5:30 p.m. As seating is limited, those interested in attending should call the Redwood Library at (401) 847-0292 Ext. 112.
