Doctoral candidates to present dissertation proposals, defenses

Faculty, staff and graduate students are encouraged to attend any or all of the 12 dissertation proposal and defense presentations scheduled this semester. In addition, any undergraduate students who may be considering the pursuit of a Ph.D. are welcome to attend.

Those interested may view a copy of the documents in person by making an appointment with Melissa Davis, coordinator of special academic projects and programs. She may be reached at melissa.davis@salve.edu.

Peter Moons will present his dissertation proposal at 3 p.m. Monday, March 2 in the McKillop Library special collections room. The proposal is titled “El Jefe Maximo: How Manuel Noriega Came To Power and Sustained His Dictatorship.”

Mary Keator will present her dissertation proposal at 4:30 p.m. Monday, March in the McKillop Library special collections room. The proposal is titled “Re-Appropriating the Monastic Practice of Lectio Divina: A Contemplative Pedagogical Method of Inquiry to Uncover Wisdom Embedded in the Humanities.”

Prudence Ngarambe will defend his dissertation at 1 p.m. Friday, March 6 in the Young Building ballroom. The dissertation is titled “Civil-Military Relations and the Challenges to Human Security and Democracy in Rwanda: A Sociopolitical Perspective.”

Clark Summers will present his dissertation proposal at 2:30 p.m. Monday, March 16 in the McKillop Library special collections room. The proposal is titled “Women in Combat: The Implications Regarding American Civil-Military Relations, Contemporary Culture and Technology.”

Donna Tocco-Greenaway will defend her dissertation at 11 a.m. Friday, March 20 in the McKillop Library special collections room. The dissertation is titled “Assisted Reproductive Technology, Bioethics, and Literature: Progenitors and Others’ Relatedness to Embryos, Androids and Children.”

Stephen Jackson will defend his dissertation at 1 p.m. Friday, March 20 in the McKillop Library special collections room. The dissertation is titled “Beneath the Surface: An Examination of the Characterization of African-Americans in Submarine-Themed American Film.”

Brett Morash will defend his dissertation at 3:30 p.m. Friday, March 20 in the McKillop Library special collections room. The dissertation is titled “The Rise and Fall of the Union of Islamic Courts.”

James Lamberti will defend his dissertation at 11 a.m. Friday, March 27 in the McKillop Library special collections room. The dissertation is titled “Romano Guardini on Technology, Existence and the Human Person: An Introduction, Exposition and Appraisal.”

Kelly Alverson will defend her dissertation at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 27 in the McKillop Library special collections room. The dissertation is titled “Contagion of Kindness: Observability, Recognition and Shared Experience as Motivation for Online Prosocial Behavior.”

Linda Pastryk will present her dissertation proposal at 8:30 a.m. Monday, March 30 in the Mercy Center conference room. The proposal is titled “Spinning the Thread of Life: The Cosmic and the Co-Creative.”

Patrizia Acerra will present her dissertation proposal at 1 p.m. Monday, March 30 in the McKillop Library special collections room. The proposal is titled “Performing the Political: The Challenge of Technological Interpassivity and its Implications for 21st Century Dramatic Performance.”

Rory Senerchia will defend her dissertation at 3 p.m. Friday, April 10 in the McKillop Library special collections room. The dissertation is titled “Academic Success and Academic Culture Shock: Do International Students Benefit from Acculturation Intervention?”
