Extensions Dance Company to present spring concerts
Extensions, the University’s professional dance company, will present its annual spring concert at the Casino Theatre Feb. 27 through March 1. This year’s program includes a range of choreography from faculty, students and renowned guest choreographers.
Performances will be held at 8 p.m. each day, with a matinee at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1. Admission is $10 for general, $8 for seniors and military and $5 for Salve Regina students, faculty and staff. Tickets are available at (401) 341-2250 or tinyurl.com/salvecasino.
Boston-based artist Nailah Randall-Bellinger created an original work for the company. Titled “Intersections,” the ensemble piece is a reflection on how people’s paths intersect all day, every day, yet society has conditioned us so we are often isolated and unable to form honest connections. Randall-Bellinger’s athletic movement vocabulary offers a fast paced, kinetic experience.
Amy VanKirk, assistant professor of dance at Radford University in Virginia, set a Latin jazz dance on an all-female ensemble. “Fuerza!Fuego” is a sensual and dynamic piece that exudes fire and passion.
Artistic director Lindsay Guarino’s new work “Supplient/1214” reflects on the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The emotionally charged piece expresses every parent’s deepest fear through a contemporary aesthetic.
Additional choreography will range from ballet to hip-hop with choreography from students Cayley Christoforou ’15, Alli Montecillo ’14, Casey Sheehan ’14, Alysia Sjoberg ’16 and Kayla Tolman ’15; faculty member Ali Brodsky; and guests Mark Harootian and Andrea Dawn Shelley.
