The Office of International Programs has announced the recipients of its fall 2013 study abroad scholarships: Hannah Cazzetta ’15, Samantha Doolan ’15, Elizabeth Fitz ’15 and Nichole Souza ’14.

  • Cazzetta received the Jane Integlia Campbell Scholarship for Modern Languages. She will study at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile in Valparaiso, Chile during the 2013-2014 academic year.
  • Doolan received the Donaldson Trust Scholarship and the API scholarship. She will study at the University of Granada in Spain during the fall 2013 semester.
  • Fitz received the Study Abroad Endowment Scholarship. She will study at St. Mary’s University College in London during the fall 2013 semester.
  • Souza received the Donaldson Trust Scholarship. She will study at the Center for Cross-Cultural Study in Seville, Spain during the fall 2013 semester.

Salve Regina’s study abroad scholarship program aims to diversify the kinds of students who study abroad and the countries and regions where they go by supporting undergraduates who might otherwise not participate due to financial constraints. Scholarship recipients have the opportunity to gain a better understanding of other cultures, countries, languages and economies, making them better prepared for the workforce and leadership roles post-graduation.

Most applicants are eligible for the Study Abroad Endowment Scholarship, but may be eligible for others as well, such as the Jane Campbell Scholarship in Modern Languages and the Donaldson Scholarship (for students studying abroad in Spanish-speaking countries). Award amounts are distributed directly to the recipients’ Salve Regina account and will be used toward tuition. Funds are awarded on the basis of financial need, academic merit and students’ demonstrated maturity as responsible members of the Salve Regina community.

Award recipients will write a blog for the Office of International Programs while abroad. They will also make a formal presentation about their study abroad program during International Education Week in November 2014.

Applications for spring 2014 study abroad scholarships will be available online in August and due Oct. 1. Contact studyabroad@salve.edu for additional details or stop by the Gatehouse.
