Harden named rookie of the week
Meaghan Harden ’16 was named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rookie of the week after the women’s basketball team reached the conference title game last weekend.
Harden had a big week for the Seahawks despite a six-point loss in the conference final. In a 74-52 quarterfinal win over sixth-seeded Eastern Nazarene College, she scored 15 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out two assists and earned one block.
She then poured in a career-high 30 points in Salve Regina’s 69-48 semifinal win at Roger Williams University, the No. 2 seed in the CCC tournament. Harden went a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line in the 21-point victory, in which the Seahawks avenged two regular-season losses to the Hawks to reach their third straight CCC final.
In the 69-63 championship loss at the University of New England, Harden scored 13 of her 14 points in the second half as Salve Regina rallied from a 19-point deficit to close within two (53-51) on Harden’s free throws at 5:42.
The first-year Seahawk leads the team in scoring (16.0 points per game) and was selected as the conference’s rookie of the year prior to the tournament.
