“Library Lessons” workshops set for fall semester

The McKillop Library will once again sponsor “Library Lessons,” a series of workshops open to all members of the Salve Regina community, throughout the fall 2015 semester. Topics include conducting research, learning APA and MLA citation styles and using bibliographic citation managers.

Those who are interested in attending may register for the “Library Lessons” series online at library.salve.edu/librarylessons.

“Introduction to Today’s Library Services”

5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, McKillop Library, Room 106
5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, Center for Adult Education, Warwick

This workshop is designed to introduce students, faculty, staff and other interested members of the Salve Regina community to using the resources and materials available in the library. Topics include searching the catalog, borrowing from other libraries and using the resources from off-campus.

“How to Do Research”

5:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, Center for Adult Education, Warwick
5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, McKillop Library, Room 106

Trying to find and decide on a topic can often be complicated and frustrating. This workshop will provide participants with the basics and tools to choose and investigate topics and create effective search strategies.

“Learn APA Citation Style”

5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, Center for Adult Education, Warwick
5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, McKillop Library, Room 106

This workshop will explain the American Psychological Association (APA) citation and format style that is most commonly used to cite sources within the social sciences.

“Learn MLA Citation Style”

5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, Center for Adult Education, Warwick
5:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, McKillop Library, Room 106

This workshop will explain the Modern Language Association (MLA) citation and format style that is most commonly used to cite sources within the humanities and liberal arts.

“Using Bibliographic Citation Managers: RefWorks”

5:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, McKillop Library, Room 106

This workshop will provide the basics on how to use RefWorks, an online research management tool, to manage and store variously gathered information and to generate citations and bibliographies.

“Conducting a Literature Review”

5:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, McKillop Library, Room 106

A literature review is an account of what has been published on a topic by accredited scholars and researchers. This workshop will provide participants with the tools to find and analyze the relevant resources in a literature review.
