Pitcher Patrick Maybach ’20 was recently named New England rookie of the year by D3baseball.com. He was also a first team all-New England selection by both the American Baseball Coaches Association and D3baseball.com.

Several other Seahawks were also recognized, including catcher Christian Vargas ’18, pitcher Jimmy Fitzgerald ’18 and infielder John Militano ’18.

Maybach finished the regular season with a 1.36 ERA and went 9-0 with one save in 10 appearances. Both his ERA and win total were the best in the conference at the end of conference play. Maybach also struck out 67 batters, ranking him third in the conference, and ranked eighth nationally in ERA. He was named national pitcher of the week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers’ Association for the week ending March 12.

Vargas was named second team all-New England by the American Baseball Coaches Association and D3baseball.com. He had a strong season at the plate, finishing in the top 10 in the conference in batting average (seventh), on-base percentage (sixth) and slugging percentage (eighth). Vargas was also a major run producer, scoring 29 runs, driving in 28 and hitting three home runs. He was second in the conference in runners caught stealing with 18.

Fitzgerald was named second team all-New England by the American Baseball Coaches Association. He was one of the best strikeout pitchers in Division III, averaging 12.55 strikeouts per nine innings, ranking him first in the conference and 10th nationally. Fitzgerald went 6-1 this year with a 2.75 ERA while holding opponents to a .173 average. He had 73 strikeouts and one shutout this season.

Militano was named third team all-New England by the American Baseball Coaches Association. He was the league leader in hits (44) and stolen bases (29). Militano crossed the plate 39 times to finish second in the conference, and his .358 batting average placed him sixth in the conference.
