Mercy Center seeking volunteers to help feed the homeless
Help feed the homeless. The Mercy Center for Spiritual Life is seeking volunteers to help prepare and serve meals at the McKinney Cooperative Shelter in downtown Newport. Volunteers prepare and cook all food at the Mercy Center and then serve at the McKinney Shelter.
Located at 15 Meeting St. in Newport, the McKinney Shelter is an emergency homeless shelter for men and women. The shelter houses 19 men and six women and also offers transitional housing for 12 men and four women, with preference given to residents of Newport County.
Volunteers are needed for the following dates: Sunday, Oct. 6, Sunday, Oct. 27, Sunday, Nov. 10 and Sunday, Dec. 1. Volunteers will meet in the Mercy Center at 3 p.m. and will finish around 6:15 p.m.
