God of mercy and justice,

Our hearts ache and our communities are torn asunder.

We are created equal in dignity; we are created in your image.

And yet we stand on the necks of some and open the doors to others.

We are overtaken by hatred and violence from within and without.

We cry out “How long, O Lord?”

You ask again: “Who is our neighbor?”

Teach us your ways, O God.

Give us an undivided heart.

Open our ears to hear your truth.

Open our eyes to see in your light.

Create a new heart within us.

Teach us to love as you love.

Show us the ways of justice, mercy and peace.

Set us free.

Amen.

Offered by Dr. Theresa Ladrigan-Whelpley, vice president for mission integration
