Last week, the Salve Regina community celebrated Mercy Week. Mercy Week is a time to recall the University’s Mercy heritage and to be inspired by the legacy of Catherine McAuley and the Sisters of Mercy.

One of the many important lessons one can learn from the story of Catherine McAuley and those first Sisters of Mercy is to step up and take the lead when there is a need in  community. There are many opportunities for Salve Regina students to learn about the Mercy heritage and to gain skills as leaders on campus.

One of those opportunities is with Mercy in Motion. Mercy in Motion is the campus ministry’s student leadership team, charged with serving as an inviting, helpful and welcoming presence on campus. Students who join Mercy in Motion will learn about and practice hospitality to everyone by hosting events with the Mercy Center. Membership is open through the month of October, and students can apply here.

Mercy in Motion creates events for the whole campus, which encompass building community, deepening spirituality, service to others and engaging the critical concerns of mercy. The team hosts social events, dinner discussions, spiritual enrichment and community service for all students.

Team members develop skills that the world needs today through regular formation in hospitality, teamwork, community outreach and engaging the needs of others. They work with Mercy Center for Spiritual Life staff to design programs that range from discussions on social justice issues to themed parties designed to build community.

This student leadership team is sponsored by the Mercy Center for Spiritual Life and is a very active group of students who seek to form community on campus and provide opportunities for students to dive deeper into the Salve Regina mission and mercy traditions. Along the way, students learn to lead with mercy and have a lot of fun.

If anyone is a student who is interested in taking a leadership role and working to strengthen the community bonds on campus, consider joining Mercy in Motion.

Membership is open through the month of October, and students can apply here.

This post is part of an ongoing series called Mercy Mondays that highlights Salve Regina’s dedication to its Mercy Mission. Search the tag Mercy Mission for more updates on the Mercy branches of Salve Regina.
