Mission grant provides bicycles for Boys & Girls Clubs
Thanks to a 2012-2013 mission integration grant, Salve Regina students were able to repair used bicycles and donate them to children at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County.
The used bicycles were donated by Salve Regina students, faculty and staff. In addition, several students volunteered their time to clean and repair the bicycles and ready them for use. Funds from the mission integration grant were used to purchase wheels, tubes, tires, brakes and cleaning agents for the donated bicycles.
The effort was part of the bicycle loan program, which makes more than 130 bicycles available for Salve Regina students to loan on a semester basis. The program promotes healthy behaviors and healthy choices among Salve Regina students while providing opportunities for convenient transportation.
Used bicycles will be accepted through mid-May. Anyone wishing to donate a bicycle should contact Paul Cardoza, coordinator for student health education, in the Rodgers Recreation Center, Room 110, or at paul.cardoza@salve.edu.
