Multicultural Programs hosting annual leadership retreat
The Office of Multicultural Programs will host its second annual Multicultural Leadership Retreat Friday, Nov. 21 through Sunday, Nov. 23. Students who are looking to enhance and hone their skills as leaders by learning more about culturally competent leadership are strongly encouraged to participate.
Participants will build leadership skills and advance their cultural competency through self-knowledge activities, group discussions and team building exercises. Students will spend three days at a tranquil location in Exeter, R.I., exploring issues of social justice and expanding their knowledge of multiculturalism.
The retreat is aimed at educating students about diversity and fostering a safe and supportive community for all who come to Salve Regina. Last year’s retreat had a high attendance and high efficacy, with students remarking on the eye-opening experience that they had.
Berlenise Castillo ’16 said the retreat allowed her to put her experiences into perspective. “I felt better knowing that those in my community were now equipped with the information that would help them understand what goes on in my life and how they can help others,” she added.
Applications are available in the Office of Multicultural Programs. The retreat will be capped at 50 students. For more information, email Dr. Sami Nassim, director of multicultural programs, at sami.nassim@salve.edu.
