The Office of Human Resources has organized several wellness activities for faculty and staff for the spring 2013 semester, including svaroopa yoga, Pilates and hatha yoga.

Svaroopa Yoga

Svaroopa yoga is a supported and compassionate style of yoga based on a sequence of deceptively simple poses that are fully supported with blankets and blocks, meeting your body where it is. Through a blend of asanas (poses), breathing and meditation, you will experience release from pain, enhanced ease of movement and reduced mental stress and fatigue. Classes are taught by Julie Barry and participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing.

Classes will be held from 12:15-1:15 p.m. Tuesdays from Jan. 8 through May 14 in the Antone Academic Center dance studio. The cost is $144 for 12 sessions and walk-ins are welcome at $15 per session.

Pilates

Pilates is an exercise program emphasizing balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility and torso stability to support efficient graceful movement. Classes are taught by Ellen Weaver Paquette and participants are encouraged to bring a mat and wear socks and loose-fitting clothing.

Classes will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 12:50 Mondays from Jan. 21 through May 6 in the Rodgers Recreation Center, Rooms 030-031 (no class Feb. 18). The cost is $150 for all sessions and walk-ins are welcome at $15 per session.

Yoga

This hatha yoga class focuses on breathing, stretching and strengthening to support physical, emotional and spiritual well being. Classes are taught by Christine Reed and participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat and blanket or large towel.

Classes will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays from Jan. 22 through April 30 in the Ochre Court drawing room. The cost is $120 for all sessions and walk-ins are welcome at $15 per session.

Employees may pay by cash or check (payable to Salve Regina University), or a payroll deduction option is available. To register for any of the classes listed above, contact Cindy Donnelly at Ext. 3160 or cynthia.donnelly@salve.edu.
