Political science majors to present, defend senior research

The Department of Political Science and International Relations will hold its 47th annual presentation and defense of senior research Saturday, Feb. 27 and Saturday, March 5 in the O’Hare Academic Center, Room 260. Eleven senior political science majors are scheduled to present and defend their research.

Members of the Salve Regina community are invited to attend, and may stay for any length of time. The schedule is:

Saturday, Feb. 27

  • 8:30 a.m. – Christopher O’Keefe: “Salah Shehadeh: Morally Permissible Collateral Damage”
  • 9:15 a.m. – Amanda Bailey: “Recognizing the Armenian Tragedy as Genocide: The Wrong Political Decision for the United States”
  • 10 a.m. – Sarah Kiely: “Why Liberalization Could Not Breathe: A Case Study of Egypt”
  • 10:45 a.m. – Taylor Enos: “Thawing Out: The Role of the Arctic Council in a Melting Arctic”
  • 11:30 a.m. – Ariana Caputo: “The Rescission of the Equal Rights Amendment in Tennessee: A Case of Mobilized Opposition Inciting Legislative Fears”
  • 12:15 p.m. – Brigid Sawyer: “The Guarantee Clause: The Issue of Justiciability”

Saturday, March 5

  • 8:30 a.m. – Berlenise Castillo: “Kelo v. City of New London: Abusing the Taking Clause of the Power of Eminent Domain”
  • 9:15 a.m. – Zarifa Hamidi: “Financing Terrorism: From Where and How the Taliban Receive Their Funding”
  • 10 a.m. – Ellen Gensicki: “Standing Up to Chinese Cyber Espionage: Visible U.S. Responses to China’s Invisible War”
  • 10:45 a.m. – John M. Farrell IV: “Jacksonian Democracy: How the Bank War Failed the Common Man”
  • 11:30 a.m. – Derek French: “Subcontracting Liberation: Private Military Companies and Humanitarian Interventions”
