Salve Regina hosting annual Relay for Life Oct. 15
After raising $24,000 for the American Cancer Society over the past two years, Salve Regina will host its third annual Relay for Life on Saturday, Oct. 15. All members of the University community are invited to participate.
Designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for the American Cancer Society’s research and programs, Relay for Life events feature teams of people gathering at schools, fairground or parks to take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member moving at all times.
Salve Regina’s event, scheduled for noon to 7 p.m. on the Wakehurst lawn, will follow a carnival theme. Activities include a Pitches With Attitude mini-concert, Karate Club demonstration, carnival games, American Sign Language Club performance, the popular “Buzz-Off” and the closing luminaria ceremony.
Students, faculty and staff may visit the Relay for Life website to make a donation and/or join or form a team. For more information, email Amanda Smith ’17, event lead on the Relay for Life planning committee, at amanda.smith@salve.edu.
Volunteers are also needed throughout the day. For more information on volunteering, visit the Office of Community Service’s opportunities webpage.
Relay for Life fundraising supports the American Cancer Society’s mission to help people stay well through early detection and prevention, get well once diagnosed through a variety of programs and services for cancer survivors and their caregivers, and find a cure for cancer through groundbreaking research.
