Congratulations to the following student athletes, who recently received honors from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC):

Field hockey: Marissa Gagnon ’16

Marissa Gagnon ’16 was named the CCC rookie of the week after helping spark the Seahawks to a 2-0 week, including a 9-0 victory over Daniel Webster College and an impressive 4-1 victory over conference-foe Western New England University.

The freshman forward currently has 11 points on five goals and an assist during her rookie campaign, helping the Seahawks get off to a 5-4 start, which already matches the team’s win total from the entire previous season.

Men’s cross country: Sean Hughes ’16

Sean Hughes ’16 was named the CCC rookie of the week for the third time after recording a ninth-place finish (26:53) among a field of 275 runners at the Pop Crowell Invitational at Gordon College. In a race that included nearly every CCC cross country team, Hughes was the top CCC finisher.

Women’s soccer: Kaitlyn Birrell ’13

Kaitlyn Birrell ’13 was honored with her ninth career CCC player of the week award, the second time this season she has earned the award. Birrell helped the Seahawks to a 2-0 week, compiling 11 points by scoring four goals and dishing out three assists.

Birrell currently leads the conference with 30 points on the season, while the next closest player has just 19 points. She also leads the league with 13 goals while ranking third in assists with four helpers on the season.

Women’s tennis: Kasey Walther ’16

Kasey Walther ’16 celebrated her 18th birthday last Saturday with a pair of victories to lift the women’s tennis team to a 7-2 victory over Gordon College and earn CCC rookie of the week honors.

In doubles, Walther paired with Shannon O’Brien ’13 for an 8-1 win at the second position. Walther also earned her second singles victory of the season, a 6-0, 6-3 score at No. 1 singles against Gordon’s Lily Dreschler.
