Spring concerts feature choral groups, symphonic band and orchestra

Salve Regina’s music program will present a variety of concerts this week, including performances from the University’s choral groups along with the Newport Community Symphonic Band and the Newport County Orchestra.
The Newport County Orchestra concert will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, May 3 in the Casino Theatre. Directed by Vincent Mattera, the program will include Vittorio Giannini’s “Symphony No. 2,” Aaron Copland’s “Our Town,” Sergey Prokofiev’s “Lt. Kije Suite” and Johannes Brahms’ “Academic Festival Overture.”
An a cappella concert will be performed at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4 at the Casino Theatre. Music will be performed by the University’s a cappella groups Mixtapes and Pitches with Attitude. Admission is free.
The Newport Community Symphonic Band concert will be performed at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 4 in the Casino Theatre. Directed by Peter Davis, the program will feature selections from Frank Ticheli, Robert Sheldon, Travis J. Weller, Pat Metheny and more. The Salve Regina jazz ensemble will also perform.
The choral concert will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 5 in Ochre Court. Directed by Dr. Donald St. Jean, the performance will feature the University Chorus, Madrigals Chorus and the a cappella groups Mixtapes and Pitches With Attitude. Selections include “I Will Arise and Go” by Shawn Kirchner, “Muusika” by Estonian composer Part Uusberg, “The Heavens are Telling” by Franz Josef Haydn and a medley from Stephen Sondheim’s “Sweeney Todd.”
Unless noted otherwise, admission to all concerts is $10 for general, $8 for students and senior citizens and free for Salve Regina students with a University ID. Tickets will be available at the door.
