Student Activities plans “Winter Week” events

The Office of Student Activities has designated the first week of the spring 2014 semester “Winter Week” and has planned a number of events, ranging from a coffeehouse to the Friday Night Live kickoff.

Events include:

Tickets on sale: Men’s ice hockey
Come cheer on the men’s ice hockey team as they play Johnson & Wales University at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence on Tuesday, Jan. 28. Tickets will be available in the Office of Student Activities beginning at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21. The cost is $5, which includes transportation and admission to the game.

CAB comedy: Peter Boie
8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21 in the DiStefano Lecture Hall
Peter Boie, the “Magician for Non-Believers,” is about being honest with the audience. Magic isn’t real … but Boie will make you believe for the length of his show. Free pizza will be served.

Tickets on sale: Blacklight dance
Sponsored by WSRU, the annual blacklight dance will be held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31 in Ochre Court. Tickets will be available in the Office of Student Activities beginning at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22. The cost is $5.

Coffeehouse: Alyssa Bernal
8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 in Wakehurst
Musician Alyssa Bernal is a relatable girl with an unforgettable voice, known for her new single “Never Would.” Free coffee and refreshments will be served.

Things for Thursday
11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23 in Wakehurst
This week’s theme is photo tiles. Things for Thursday is free to all full-time undergraduate students.

Tickets on sale: Loon Mountain ski trip
Ski or snowboard at Loon Mountain in New Hampshire. The bus will depart Salve Regina at 4 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1 and leave Loon at 8 p.m. Tickets will be available in the Office of Student Activities beginning at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. The cost is $20, which includes transportation and lift ticket.

Free ice skating
5-9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23 at the Newport Skating Center
Full-time undergraduate students who present their Salve Regina ID receive free admission and free skate rentals.

Friday Night Live: Snowpocalypse
8 p.m. to midnight Friday, Jan. 24 in Wakehurst
What would life be like in a snow-filled, post-apocalyptic Salve? Find out at Snowpocalypse. Airbrush hats and scarves, Snowzilla inflatable “snow”tubing, “zombify yourself” movie photos, food, games and more.

Move Night: “About Time”
8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 in the DiStefano Lecture Hall
Free popcorn will be served.
