Undergraduate students are invited to submit applications for two service trips sponsored by the Office of Community Service – northern New Hampshire in May and Nicaragua in January 2016.

May Break

During the May Break trip to northern New Hampshire, scheduled for May 18-23, participants will work with a variety of community organizations, including Harvest Christian Fellowship, the Gorham Community Learning Center and Second Chance Animal Rescue. Students will experience need in a new setting while learning about the community and taking on several adventure activities.

Participants will travel by van to Copper Cannon Camp in Bethlehem, N.H. for a week of service and adventure. The cost is $220, which includes accommodations, meals, project supplies, a moose tour and an adventure activity. Interested students are invited to attend an information session in Wakehurst, Room 201 at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 3.

Nicaragua

Scheduled for Jan. 9-16, the Nicaragua trip is run through Mustard Seed Communities, an organization that works with the local Catholic church to serve the needs of abandoned or orphaned children with mental and physical disabilities.

Participants work with children and young adults at Hogar Belen-Diriamba Orphanage while staying in a dorm-style mission cottage on the campus. A majority of the orphanage’s residents cannot speak, so participants learn to communicate with the children through other means.

The cost is approximately $1,400-$1,500, depending on airfare. This includes $950 (payable to Mustard Seed) for in-country transportation, housing accommodations, trip insurance, most meals and mission fees. Passport fees and vaccinations are separate.
