The Department of Music, Theatre and Dance will present its version of the world’s longest running musical, “The Fantasticks,” with several upcoming performances at the Casino Theatre.

Performances will be given March 27, 28, 29 and April 4 at 8 p.m.; and March 29, 30 and April 5 at 2 p.m. Floor tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 for military and senior citizens, and $5 for Salve Regina faculty, students and staff, while balcony tickets are $15, $12 and $10. For reservations, call the box office at (401) 341-2250 or visit www.tinyurl.com/salvecasino.

Since its opening in May 1960 at the Sullivan Street Playhouse in New York and its subsequent revival at the Snapple Theatre Center, “The Fantasticks” has become the longest running production of any kind in the history of American theater. Written by Tom Jones (lyrics) and Harvey Schmidt (music), the production has run for more than half a century, entrancing generations of audiences the world over.

“The Fantasticks” is a funny and romantic musical about a boy, a girl, a mother, a father and a wall. The narrator, El Gallo, originally played by Jerry Orbach, asks the audience to use its imagination and follow him into a world of moonlight and magic. The boy and the girl fall in love, grow apart and finally find their way back to each other after realizing the truth in El Gallo’s words that “without a hurt, the heart is hollow.”

Directed by Reggie Phoenix, associate professor of theater and artistic director of the Casino Theatre, the play features Mariana Bracciale ’16, Jake Fernandes ’17, Morgan Grambo ’14, Raquel Jean-Louis, Hunter Nicolson ’16, Jonathan Olivera ’11, Katie O’Rourke ’14 and Matt Royality-Lindman.
