For the third time this month, the Commonwealth Coast Conference has selected Victoria Varone ’17 as its runner of the week for women’s cross country.

Varone led the Seahawks to a 13th place finish among 23 teams in the Purple Valley Classic hosted by Williams College last weekend. She finished the grass-and-trail 6K course in 23:46.5 to place 65th in the field of 273 runners. The meet included six of the top-10 ranked Division III teams in New England and nine of the top 35 in the nation.

“Victoria ran another excellent race for us,” said head coach Rob McGuinness. “We knew this meet would be a test, given the quality of the competition at the Purple Valley Classic. She was clearly up for the challenge. Victoria took full advantage of this competitive opportunity and she continues to demonstrate just how good she is, week after week.”

The Seahawks return to action at the Community College of Rhode Island’s Tri-State Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 1.
