Erin Harte, director of the Writing Center, will be offering a virtual workshop to help students planning to apply for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program to compose their Personal Statement and their Statement of Grant Purpose — both required components of the Fulbright application.

The virtual workshop session will take place Monday, May 18, at 2:00 p.m. Students can take part by logging on to salve.webex.com. The meeting number is 479 452 073, and the meeting password is QDtPdbrE736.

If someone is unable to attend the workshop, students can also schedule virtual advising sessions with the Salve Fulbright Program Advisor, Erin FitzGerald, by emailing erin.fitzgerald@salve.edu.

The Campus Deadline for submitting a Fulbright application for review by the Campus Committee is Friday, August 21, 2020. Campus Committee interviews take place in September and the National Deadline for submission of the application is Tuesday, October 13, 2020.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program funds study/research awards or English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Programs in over 140 different countries. Students choose one country to compete in, and then they will undergo a rigorous application process. Over 1,650 volunteer Fulbright Program advisers on campuses nationwide assist in the recruitment and advisement of applicants.

Students competing for the study/research awards should have one or more of the following experiences: research experience, study abroad experience in target country, institutional or organizational contacts in target country and ability to communicate in target country language.

Students competing for the ETA Program should have one or more of the following: experience in leadership roles; student mentoring experience; tutoring/teaching experience; ability to communicate in target country language, which is sometimes not required; and study abroad experience, which does not have to have taken place in the target country.

Visit the Fulbright U.S. Student Program website for more information.
