Salve Regina’s student employees provide a valuable service to the University. To recognize their contributions, the Office of Career Development will sponsor the second annual Student Employment Week April 3-7.

All student employees and supervisors are invited to participate in the week’s activities, which are movie-themed.

Monday, April 3: Classic Movie Trivia

Test your knowledge of classic films and enter to win a prize. There will be 10 questions total. For every two correct answers, participants will receive one raffle ticket, along with a bonus raffle ticket for completing the form. Trivia sheets will be available in the Miley Hall lobby from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the O’Hare Academic Building lobby from 1-4 p.m. Raffle winners will be emailed to pick up their prizes in the Office of Career Development.

Tuesday, April 4: Red Carpet Photo Booth

Stop by the Wakehurst lawn between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to capture a red carpet-worthy moment using classic movie props. (Rain location: Wakehurst south porch.)

Wednesday, April 5: Secret Agent Scavenger Hunt

The scavenger hunt will take participants across campus in search of photo ops needed to achieve secret agent status. The first team to complete the scavenger hunt will receive a prize. Teams should check in at the Office of Career Development between noon and 4 p.m.

Thursday, April 6: Student Employment Awards Luncheon

Come decked out in your finest Oscars attire for an appreciation luncheon, scheduled for noon to 3 p.m. in the Ochre Court state dining room. Students who were nominated for student employee of the year and past student employee of the month winners will be recognized. The student employee of the year and supervisor of the year will be announced. Students should RSVP via Career Hub by April 3.

Friday, April 7: Popping into the Weekend

Pop by the Office of Career Development between noon and 4 p.m. for a popcorn bar with add-your-own toppings (available while supplies last).

The Dorrance H. Hamilton Gallery has announced the opening of the 2017 Honors Senior Thesis Exhibition, which showcases the work of five outstanding seniors from the Department of Art and Art History.

The exhibition features selections from thesis projects in painting, illustration and graphic design by the following artists:

• Lauren Calder – “It’s All Relative”
• Casey Devaney – “No Name Brewery”
• Kristen Maliszewski – “What’s in Season”
• Diana Ostiguy – “As the Story Goes”
• Brandon Salvatore – “The World as a Mirror”

An opening reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 30. The exhibition will be on display in the gallery through Wednesday, April 26.

Exhibitions are open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The gallery is closed on Mondays.

From Native American literature to social welfare policy to foraging behavior in ants, the interests of Salve Regina students are wide-ranging and diverse. On Wednesday, March 29, more than 200 of the University’s undergraduates will showcase their curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular involvements during the annual SRyou Student Exposition.

Themed “Start the Conversation,” SRyou 2017 will feature dozens of posters, table displays, classroom style presentations, workshops, exhibits, and performances taking place between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Poster presentations and table displays/exhibits will be in the Rodgers Recreation Center; concurrent presentations, performances and workshops will be in the Antone Academic Center and O’Hare Academic Building; fine art exhibits will be in the Antone Academic Center; and performing arts will be in Angelus Hall and Megley Theatre.

The Championship Melt food truck will serve grilled cheese sandwiches from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Rodgers Recreation Center parking lot (while supplies last). The closing celebration and ice cream social, scheduled for 6-8 p.m. in Wakehurst, will feature closing remarks at 6:30 p.m. and a raffle at 7 p.m. Students will receive a raffle ticket for each session they attend.

Date founded: Sigma Phi Sigma, the national mercy honor society, was founded in 1955 not only at Salve Regina, but also at all colleges that were under the sponsorship of the Sisters of Mercy at the time. Salve Regina’s chapter is the only one that has been active without interruption since 1955.

Sigma Phi Sigma is a working honor society that emphasizes service to the community. The honor society is a unique group. In addition to small group community service, members represent the University at Convocation and the Governor’s Ball.

The honor society has members from many majors, including but not limited to administration of justice, biology, education and nursing. Students with a minimum GPA of at least 3.4 who are interested in making a deep connection with the University are invited to apply for membership.

“Sigma is a wonderful way to get yourself involved in a unique group of people and submerge yourself in a truly dynamic group,” said Francesca Galeazzi ’18. “Being able to serve our campus and community and maintain a leadership role on campus all while meeting new people in Sigma builds both confidence and membership on our Salve community.”

The Office of International Programs will award a “Generation Study Abroad” scholarship of $2,500 to a student choosing to study abroad in fall semester. Interested students should complete the following four steps by April 1 as study abroad program deadlines are fast approaching:

1. Attend a 4 p.m. information session on study abroad at Drexel Hall any weekday.
2. Meet with Katie McCormack, assistant director of study abroad, for an initial study abroad advising meeting (instructions will be emailed to students after they attend the information session).
3. Begin your fall semester Salve Regina study abroad application.
4. Submit your Generation Study Abroad scholarship application.

Please note: Students who have already completed the first three steps and have been accepted to fall term study abroad programs will be automatically entered in the scholarship application.

The Generation Study Abroad scholarship is designed to diversify the participants in study abroad. Therefore, competitive applicants will have one or more of the following features:

• Pell Grant eligible/high financial need (confirm with Office of Financial Aid)
• First generation college student (first in your family to attend college)
• Underrepresented racial/ethnic groups on campus
• Student athletes

The competition is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree program. Non-U.S. citizens can seek information about other study abroad scholarships through the office of international programs.

Salve Regina received the scholarship funds through a national competition sponsored by the Institute of International Education (IIE) and was selected as one of 14 Generation Study Abroad commitment partner universities to receive a grant. IIE established the Generation Study Abroad program to diversify study abroad and to encourage students to go abroad who would otherwise not participate in an academic, internship or service-learning experience abroad.
